Flying Nun x Beervana
Flying Nun, an iconic Kiwi record label, has been at the heart of New Zealand’s underground/alternative music scene for many years. With huge names like The Chills, Fazerdaze, Aldous Harding, and Pavement signed to the label over its 40-year tenure, Flying Nun has cemented itself as a core pillar in Kiwi alternative music culture.
Beervana is a yearly craft beer festival held in Wellington, NZ every year. Celebrating all things craft beer, it showcases breweries and producers - bringing their finest and weirdest brews. Punters gather from all over the country for a weekend of music, socialising, and of course craft beer. For this project, I wanted to combine these two well-established brands, and imagine a celebration of two of my favourite things: music and craft beer.
I decided to imagine a collection of different merch and can designs all named after legendary NZ bands signed to the label. Using a similar art style to the Flying Nun branding, I incorporated parts of the festival culture to create these fun designs, envisioning them as a limited run for sale at Beervana. I enjoyed these designs so much I put them on shirts and totes - and used Flying Nun artists in the mockups.
